The journey to senior management for women

The 4th Influential Women in Banking & Investments Forum was held at Pan Pacific Singapore on 16 February.

Some 60 faculty, students, staff and industry experts attended the panel discussion organised by the Centre for Asset Management Research & Investments (CAMRI). The theme of the event was “The Golden Touch: Gender Diversity and Firm Performance”.

Nothing trivial about quizzes

Organised by the NUS Business School, in-conjunction with The Tata Group, the 10th edition of the Tata Crucible Campus Quiz Singapore saw a total of 164 participants (82 teams) participating.

Two teams (Ryan and Dylan, and Tianming and Yu See) from NUS Business School, who made it into the highly competitive top final eight-team stage, share their exciting experience. The preliminary round saw 20 questions across various topics addressed to all participants. This was followed by a short wild card round amongst teams ranked 7 to 14 based on the scores. Out of which 2 teams joined the 6 top scoring teams to make an eight-team stage final where they were further tested with five rounds of live, rapid-fire quizzing.

NUS Business School Town Hall 2014

It’s not every day that staff and faculty members of the School are able to come together for a shared purpose – but this is exactly what took place at the Town Hall on Monday, 21 April. An enthusiastic crowd of over 200 people turned out to learn about new initiatives and share ideas on how to support the School in its journey towards embracing more fully its vision, mission and values.

A Family Business Showcase

The Centre for Governance, Institutions & Organisations, or CGIO, played host to leading academics from around the world who were in Singapore to participate in the Family Business Conference.

Keynote speaker professor Ruth V.Aguilera from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign was among the scholars from the US, Europe, Canada, Australia and Asia who presented their research and participated in roundtable discussions on ownership, governance and networks in family firms.

“This is the Century of Asia”: William H. Strong, Morgan Stanley

The Asia-Pacific has weathered the storm of global financial crisis of 2008 well, and with almost half of the world’s total GDP expected to come from the region by 2040, this century is poised to be the century of Asia, according to William H. Strong, Co-CEO, Asia-Pacific, Morgan Stanley. He was speaking at a talk organised by the School as part of Leadership Dialogue Series.

A Friendly Visit

The week of January 14 was filled with company visits, networking sessions, an entrepreneurship conference and a heritage tour, for some 23 students from Peking University (PKU), who were visiting the School.

The students also had an opportunity to meet the Senior Minister of State, Josephine Teo.

Assistant Professor Amy Yi Ou and Director of Graduate Studies and alumnus of PKU, Chua Nan-Sze made presentations to the group about the School’s graduate programmes.

NUS alumni hold year-end gathering in Shanghai

Some 140 alumni from the School’s Eastern China Alumni Network (ECAN), NUS Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy Shanghai Alumni Club and NUS Faculty of Law Shanghai Alumni Club got together for a year-end gathering at Shanghai Greenland Marriott Hotel on December 14, 2013.

Running for a Cause

More than 1,000 runners came together to raise S$130,000 in donations and participate in an event showcasing camaraderie, sportsmanship and generosity, at the fourth annual NUS Bizad Charity Run, held on January 11, 2014.

The Event:

A major annual event to kick-off a new year, NUS Bizad Charity Run brought the School community together to raise funds for student bursaries and two external charities: Camp Vision, that serves and empowers underprivileged, at-risk youths in Singapore; and the Casa Raudha women’s shelter.
