This post is the first of our “Getting To Know” Series, in which we will regularly feature staff, students, and other community members of NUS Business School, who make us who we are – you know, the ordinary people who make an extraordinary difference to our culture.
His is a cheery face familiar to many a final year undergrad. Sarawak-born Chew Jian Dee is a godsend to frazzled students. The projects manager in the NUS BBA office is a human timekeeper to help them keep track of their final submissions so they graduate in time — which Jian Dee says is the best part of his job.
The only drawback? His office is SO hard to locate, tucked away in a corner of the Mochtar Riady Building. We hope it’s easier to find him after this!
Name: Chew Jian Dee
Role & Department: Manager (Projects), NUS BBA Office
I help administer the Field Service Project module (FSP), assist in exams related matters, students’ graduation matters, students’ honours programme, AACSB and EQUIS accreditation and any new projects.
No. of years of service: 3 years (started in 2011)
Family: I have a very caring wife who takes care of me and our twin boys who drive us both nuts. As the saying goes, boys will always be boys!
Three words that describe me: Happy, friendly and caring
My all-time dream is: To travel the world and watch live badminton matches with my family!
My super power : My patience and tolerance. I inherited this power from my mum. She is super patient and tolerant. I remember once she fell and broke a bone during one of her trips but she continued as if nothing had happened. In fact she did not realise something was broken until she came back from her trip! I really admire her for that
Coolest fact about my team/department is: That we’re a team with great understanding and care for each other and our excellent team work.
Three things I love about my job: Wonderful colleagues, a good working environment and great mentors
During weekends I love to: Spend quality time with my family and play some badminton matches!
Best advice to your co-workers: Learn from each other, pick your battles and show good team work
