Getting to Know: Alan Chua

In our ‘Getting To Know’ Series, we regularly feature staff, students, and other community members of NUS Business School, who make us who we are – you know, the ordinary people who make an extraordinary difference to our culture.

He is the quintessential marketing pro – enthusiastic, personable, pleasant to talk to  – and he exudes an infectious energy, say those working with him. As a marketing manager in the NUS MBA team, Alan Chua is one of the brains behind the omnipresent witty NUS MBA advertisements and promotions. But the best part about his job? He gets to travel to different parts of the world to attend road shows, information sessions, etc. to recruit the best MBA students!

No wonder then that world domination through globetrotting is his all-time dream. Here are some more interesting facts about him:

Name: Alan Chua

Role & Department: Marketing Manager, MBA Programmes Office

No. of years of service: 3 years in July 2014

Family: Just mom and dad, I’m the only child.

Three words that describe me: Optimistic, Happy and Pragmatic.

My all-time dream is: To visit every country in the world. I am currently at 45 countries over 6 continents, so I still have some way to go!

My super power: I am multi-lingual and love learning new languages. I’m fluent at English and Chinese; pretty good at French. I’ve also learnt Japanese when I was an undergrad at NUS and took Spanish lessons for a year last year.

Coolest fact about my team/department is: We all work together effortlessly and there’s a good synergy in helping each other out.

Three things I love about my job: Interactions I make with people from all over the world, the work environment and friendships I’ve got to build with NUS MBA students.

During weekends I love to: Sleep in.

Best advice to anyone eyeing your type of job: You should have a good combination of creative thinking and knowledge, in order to develop good marketing strategies to attract the right kind of students. Keeping the students’ interests at heart is very important, as only then you’d be able to help them find a right fit for the programme.
