Posters dotted the Business School foyer on the day of the Decision Sciences Undergraduate Poster Competition. For the students, it was the culmination of several weeks of discussions to find solutions to a real-life business problem, based on theories learnt in the classroom over the past few years. It was also a chance to articulate to judges, and argue too, the rationale of their business proposals.
While judges were faculty members, members of the companies they were analysing also came by to watch the presentations and offer valuable practical feedback on the business plans presented.
At Victoria’s Secret stores, staff would stand in a line to help customers gauge sizes before buying clothing as gifts. This service is for those who are uncertain about sizes.

In Las Vegas, Cheung Ho Yeung and Lee Cheryl, who are with the NUS College in Silicon Valley programme, together with NOC friends from the School of Computing, won one of the top five prizes of US$20,000 at Money20/20.

Our heartiest congratulations to Justin Liu, our third-year business and economics student. Together with teammate Denise Lim, they clinched gold at the Nacra 17 event at the Qingdao leg of the International Sailing Federation (ISAF) World Cup. They are the first Singaporeans to win at a World Cup event in the sport.
In so doing, they have qualified for the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Led by Associate Professor Ang Swee Hoon, 12 students from the Principles of Marketing class visited Porsche Centre earlier this month to find out more about the German sports car maker’s marketing strategy.
Team JNAT Consulting became the first Business School team to win both the NUS-Shell Business Case Challenge and UOB-NUS Case Competition in the same year.
One reason for their win was that the students were able to act and think like real-life consultants, according to Associate Professor Tan Soo Jiuan of Marketing, who was a member of the judging panel for both competitions.
“We put ourselves in the shoes of a consulting team, and thought about what the client would want from us. From there, we came up with the strategy that our client would be happy with,” said Team JNAT member Jonathan Koh.
Orientation seems to be a time of fun and games for Business School first-year undergraduate students.

For Business School alumnus Ivy Tse Wing Man (’11), receiving the Lee Kong Chian Global Merit Scholarship as an undergraduate opened up a world of opportunities and gave her the freedom to discover the passion that would shape her future career choice.
The Scholarship – established from gifts from the Lee Foundation and awarded to individuals who demonstrate academic excellence, all-roundness and leadership qualities – gave Ivy the opportunity to throw herself into the many activities on offer at NUS outside the academic programmes.
