The NUS Business School Mandarin Alumni Association celebrated their 25th anniversary on 30 September 2017. As part of this festive occasion, a newly established endowed NUS Business School Mandarin Alumni Endowment Fund was announced.
MBA Year 1 students Akira Muraoka and Yutaro Suhara had the opportunity to attend “Nobel Perspectives Live!” organised by UBS on 30 August. At the event, four Nobel laureates in economics – Roger Myerson, Peter Diamond, Michael Spence and Robert Merton – shared their views on a wide range of topics from automation to artificial intelligence, the future of the economy to education in a panel discussion.
The Leadership Dialogue Series (LDS) is a platform for senior industry figures share their perspectives and experiences with students as part of their holistic learning experience. In the second LDS, we invited Mr Laurence Lien, Co-Founder and CEO of the Asia Philanthropy Circle to talk about why having a civil society matters. He is also an MBA alumnus of the School.
The MBA students of Team Suptech took home the second runners-up accolade at the Supply Chain Asia Hackathon, one of the key events of the Supply Chain Week 2017 organised by Supply Chain Asia.
Held on 19 and 20 September, the theme of the Hackathon was “How can innovation drive logistics businesses in 2017 and beyond?” The finalists would have the opportunity to commercialise their solutions and even secure job opportunities.
For 26-year-old Zhang Kaixiang, it was the cost savings impact he could make in an organisation that convinced him to embark on his own journey with the National University of Singapore (NUS) Business Analytics Centre to pursue a Master of Science in Business Analytics (MSBA).
After graduating from NUS in 2014, the Electrical Engineering graduate began working in Hewlett Packard Enterprise where he witnessed an experienced data scientist help the company save “millions of dollars” every year by using predictive and prescriptive analytics. Harnessing the use of the analytics and technology, the company was able to make business decisions to prevent huge losses in the American market. “I believe technology is the ultimate source of economic and society improvements,” he said.
On 19 September, a 7.1 magnitude earthquake ripped through Mexico City, devastating the area.
Sadly a number of students from Tecnológico de Monterrey, the home university of EGADE Business School, one of our partner business schools in the Global Network for Advanced Management (GNAM), were among the casualties.
GNAM is about more than just academic collaboration, we are a community that supports one another.
In this moment of crisis for our friends in Mexico, we have the opportunity to stand together and help. At NUS Business School we express our support for our GNAM friends at EGADE and at the Tecnológico de Monterrey and stand in solidarity with them.
At NUS, Double Degree Programmes (DDPs) allow students to graduate with two different degrees in two disciplines. The programme enable students to develop deep expertise in more than one core discipline, addressing the trend of students gaining knowledge in multiple fields beyond their domain expertise.

With the great leadership of this year’s Bizad Club Rag and Flag committee, NUS Business School undergraduates made a historic and record breaking win by sweeping all major awards at this year’s NUS Rag & Flag.
The students brought home the event’s top two most coveted distinctions:

And three key accolades:
– Highest Amount Raised Award for Flag
– Best Float For Rag
– Best Costumes For Rag
As part of Academic Year 16/17, the NUS Business School Flag Committee partnered Metta Welfare Association, a charity focused on caring for the intellectually disabled community. In the past seven months the Flag Committee organised multiple events, like the Chinese New Year Dinner, Grant-A-Wish Project, Batik Painting Session, Farm Hopping Experience, Hari Raya Celebration and Picnic Session at Marina Barrage with Metta.
